Vidéki kúriájukban üres hétköznapjait éli Donald (Roger Lloyd Pack), Nancy (Kate Fahy) és fiuk, James (Leo Bill). A látszatcsalád feje, Donald sok külföldi útja mellett szakít időt halálos beteg feleségére, Nancyre is. A családtagok azonban most is közömbösek egymás iránt. Míg egy nap a skizofrén Jamesnél elszakad a cérna.
